It's Our Home - Celebrating Earth Day
We are making great progress on our Ambition 2030 goals, and can do even more with the collaboration of our External Business Partners.
External Business Partners,
Earlier this week, Virginie Helias, Chief Sustainability Officer, joined us at the Supplier Citizenship Summit to share an update on our Ambition 2030 progress over the last 18 months, as well as our priorities going forward. With Earth Day just a week away I thought I would dedicate this month's message to our Sustainability efforts and how we can work together with you, our EBP's, to protect our planet.
P&G is committed to use our voice, reach and expertise to make responsible consumption irresistible. Environmental sustainability has been embedded into how we do business for many years. In 2020 we accelerated our progress, achieving 52% reduction of GHG emissions across our operations, zero manufacturing waste to landfill (ZMWTL) in 100% of our plants, 31% of our plants powered with renewable energy, 90% recyclable packaging and we doubled the use of recycled resin in plastic packaging. And there is much more we can and should do.
With the help of our suppliers, we’re on track to reach ambitious goals by 2030:
- to be carbon neutral for the decade
- to have 100% recyclable or reusable packaging
- to reduce virgin plastic use by 50%

I also wanted to share that with the help of our waste management suppliers this past year, P&G plants globally have diverted over 1 million tons of waste - the equivalent of 640,000 cars - from landfills to alternative disposal and recycling outlets. Given this success, we’re looking ahead in 2021 to ZWTL 2.0, expanding this program to our network of supplier partners. Our GARP team is ready, willing, and able to consult with our EBPs to help them deliver this objective.
To make a meaningful and positive impact on our planet, we need our entire supply ecosystem to collaborate and join our efforts on sustainability. My ask of you is to integrate environmental sustainability into your business strategies and in your engagement with P&G, so please don't stop bringing your ideas. As you also heard at the Supplier Summit, we are piloting EcoVadis’ ESG Assessment and platform to understand more about where our supply chain is advancing work in areas P&G is prioritizing, and where we can work together to accelerate the progress. Please consider working with EcoVadis and sharing your results with us.
As part of our commitment to #LeadwithLove, we believe that every action we take – as companies, brands and individuals – can make the world a better place. Together we can protect our planet – our home – for generations to come.
Be safe and healthy.
